The fact is, people of different races love this cuisine so much that when they hear Korean food, barbecue would be the first to come in their mind. The popularity of barbecue caused many Korean restaurants to have it on their menu. It doesn’t matter where you go; most of these restaurants serve barbecue and declare it as their specialty. Barbecue is such a best seller that many restaurant customers do not get out until they have tried it. The Korean way of preparing and cooking barbecue is so unique that customers can differentiate it with the barbecue cuisines of other countries. Most Korean restaurant often offer the galbi form of barbecue. This barbecue is cooked from the short ribs of beef or pork that are marinated with a sauce. The sauce is usually made from soy sauce, sugar and garlic. Ganjang is a type of soy sauce made from soybeans. These restaurants also serve other types of marinated meat such as {chicken and pork!pork and chicken}. Also, non-marinated meats are available for those that want it that way. Typically, Korean barbeque is served with side dishes for a more delicious and stomach-fulfilling meal. One of the most loved side dish offered is the Pajori, which is a green onion salad. Another well-known side dish is a mixture of healthy vegetables such as cucumber, lettuce and pepper. A typical method to eat the barbecue is to wrap it with lettuce along with a spoonful of rice, and added with spices or the hot dipping paste which is known as ssamjang. Ssamjang is a sauce mixed between dwenjang and gochujang. You may wonder how the barbecue is cooked. The barbecue is prepared and cooked right in front of the customers’ table. The tables are built with grills or portable stoves wherein the meat is heated and grilled right in front of the customers’ eye. Aside from the barbecue itself, the form of preparing and grilling the meat while the customers watch the process is one of the reasons why a Korean restaurant is one of the most famous food locations. Visitors enjoy looking at their foods being prepared and cooked. Aside from that, they can also see that whatever they are eating are prepared and cooked in a clean and safe manner. Although some restaurants have staff who will cook the food, many customers prefer grilling their own food. Aside from barbecue, another well-known Korean dish is the Tteokguk. Tteokguk is typically prepared and eaten during the New Year’s Day. Koreans think that eating such food around the New Year will give luck for the new year. This dish is a soup with rice cakes. It could also include marinated meat, cooked eggs and gim which is a type of dried seaweed.
